The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman

May 25, 2011

Some will say this is the weakest book of the trilogy and I say PAH!!!  LOVED IT!!!!

After the first book (Northern lights) I was desperate to read more and know what happens.  This second book did not disappoint me, and it captured me like the first.

In this book we’re introduced to Will a young boy from our world who has got some unwanted trouble, but he’s in for adventure when he see’s a cat disappear in mid-air. On closer inspection he see’s that is a kind of window, and he climbs into it and into another world where he meets Lyra and Pan.

The plot takes a turn for the darker and might be a shade too dark for some of the younger children (NB these are supposed to be aimed at children/teens, but as an adult don’t let that stop you reading what is undoubtedly one of the most fantastic trilogies in print!!!!

This book  provides the stepping stone from Lord Ariel’s world and the search for Dust in the first book, to the multiple worlds, Dark Matter, the witch clans, particle physics, angels and Spectres, introduced and still to come!
